County Roscommon faces widespread disruption from Storm Éowyn

 

Thousands of homes and businesses throughout County Roscommon remain without electricity following Storm Éowyn, which ravaged the country in the early hours of this morning.

Hundred of trees were felled during the storm with a number of main roads affected. Water supplies have also been affected, with Úisce Eireann saying people can expect further disruption.

Hundred of businesses remained closed throughout the county on Friday, along with all schools and many other facilities and amenities.

Emergency crews from ESB Networks, Úisce Eireann and Roscommon County Council along with Fire Brigade crew and An Garda Síochana are working to deal with the fallout.

The Connacht Air Dome near Ballyhaunis in Co Mayo, where Mercy College Roscommon won a Connacht LGFA senior title on Thursday, was badly damaged in the storm.
