It would appear that the search for a new manager for the Roscommon senior football team will come to an end later tonight (Thursday) when a name will come before County Board delegates for ratification following a two-month search to replace Des Newton.
Speaking to The Roscommon People on Wednesday, Roscommon GAA Chairperson Mick Fahey said that he was hoping to meet with the candidate in question on Wednesday night. He added that he was hopeful that a number of loose ends could be tied up which would allow the individual’s name to go before the clubs at a meeting on Thursday night (tonight).
Several names have been linked with the vacant manager’s position in recent weeks and months but the selection committee have remained tight-lipped on the issue.
The latest rumour about the possible identity of the manager is that former Tipperary director of football and senior and minor manager, Kerry man John Evans, might be in the frame. But that is mere speculation at the time of writing. Hopefully all will be revealed at the meeting tonight.
